Double Entry Journal # 7

1. Choose one of the unprecedented stresses on the earth resources and describe how it will negatively effect the quality of life of people living in developing countries and people living in modernized countries.
Food Production will have to increase by 40 percent over the next twenty years. It is believed that the world will not be able to produce enough food to feed itself. The land is already unstable and underground water levels are already being depleted and nitrate pollution by fertilizers are just two frequent symptoms
2. What is the major debate around the future of market-based economies?
The debate is about how to balance the market-oriented approach with this or that regulatory         feature or social safety policy.

3. How has this technological revolution different the previous technological revolutions and what two factors of production and now more important than capital, labor and raw materials?
The debate is about how to balance the market-oriented approach with this or that regulatory         feature or social safety policy.

4. What new service ideas have you had direct experience with? Drawing on your personal experience what are the benefits and drawbacks of these new service ideas?

I have had experience with bundling and unbundling. I bought a laptop a few years ago and also bought an additional repair service for and additional two years. Within the three years my computer started having some issues with the hard drive.  The company could not repair it over the phone the diagnosed it as the hard drive. They sent everything to pack the computer up, included a shipping label, and I just had to drop it off at UPS. They repaired it and I had it back within about a week. I am so happy I bought the extra warranty as I don’t think I would have been able to repair this on my own.

Quote:
“An example of bundling to come: multi-use smart cards with biometric data that would serve simultaneously as identity cards; airport security devices, credit or debit cards, frequent flyer, hotel and car rental cards; telephone cares; medical insurance cards; and even voter registration.”

 Response:
This quote just plain scares me. I cannot imagine having my drivers’ license, debit card, insurance cards, or any other cards tied together. If you lose it, you are in a world of hurt. We already have identity theft and these people only need the barest of information to steal ones identity. If all of this information was to be tied in together as one card and it is lost, that person is going to be in trouble. Your money will be gone, your driver’s license would be gone, and your insurance would be abused and gone. It would be a hardship to the person to get this card replaced. It is very difficult now just to get one of these cards replaced in today’s world. I don’t like this idea and do not find it feasible.
